Are you from here?
“Nope, I was born in Nova Scotia.”
How long have you been in Banff for?
“I’ve been in Banff for about nine months. It’s a great town. I like how everything is so compact. You can just go anywhere. If you want sushi, you can hit up sushi. If you want to go to a vegetarian restaurant there’s that to hit up and there’s tons of nice shopping spots.”
What brought you here?
“I came here to see the Rockie Mountains and I came here to skateboard because there wasn’t really much of a scene back home and being close to Edmonton and Calgary, it’s kind of a good way to get into that scene.”
How long have you been skating for?
I’ve been skating for about seven or eight years now. Actually, it’ll be eight in October.
Do you ever do competitions?
“Yeah, occasionally. I did a lot back home but there hasn’t been any this year or last year since I’ve been in Banff. But, I plan on attending the D.C nationals, which I think are in two months time at the Banff Park.”
Have you already started to train for that?
“Yeah, you really just train. It’s just that I try to skate everyday and that just affects how I skate in competitions because I get better at it from skating everyday.”
What do you think of the skating scene in Banff?
“There’s a really good park here, it’s one of the best parks I’ve ever been to that isn’t cement. It used to be the Slam City Jam Court two or three years ago and it’s a huge park. It’s amazing. There’s lots of really good kids here and the people who run the park seem to know what they’re doing.”
Do you have any goals for the summer?
“Not really. I’m just going to try to skate and travel as much as I can this summer.”
