At just fifteen years old, singer-songwriter Sam Bailey has already played in more than his fair share of bars.
Inspired by his love for music, Bailey is getting a young start on his music career.
“I’m excited for the gig,” Bailey says. “It’s good to get your name out there when you’re young. I’d like to pursue a career in music.”
He hopes to one day write musical scores for movies.
Bailey, along with AGE musicianJustin Hill play Thursday at Bruno’s Bar & Grill. Bailey has performed Bow Valley Venues like Wild Bill’s, the Drake Pub, the Banff Rose & Crown, and recently at West Edmonton Mall.
“I like to get people involved when I play. I like to write music that people can relate to,” he says.
On stage with his guitar, Bailey sings about life experiences, conveying emotions of happyness, sorrow, hatred and love. He describes his original tune Zuma Shrooma as “a little bit Jack Johnson.”
He describes Hill’s song Raspberries and Ice Cream as “a bit more punk rock.”
“We both like to get the crowd involved. We talk to them, ask them how they’re doing. We try to make it a fun night,” he says.
Bailey and Hill plan to play cover tunes and original songs at Bruno’s. Bailey’s favourite cover tunes to play are the Smashing Pumpkin’s Disarm and Lack of Colour, by Death Cab for Cutie.
Bailey picked up the guitar eight years ago, inspired by his father Charles, who also performs locally.
The act, called Just Peachey, begins Thursday at 9 p.m. at Bruno’s.
