Banff non-profits robbed 0
Heartless vandals have robbed the Banff Rotary Community Hub, stealing cash from several non-profit groups that have offices in the building.
Just over $1,000 was taken from the organizations housed in the Hub sometime Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. A thief or thieves are suspected of breaking in through a side window, then using a crowbar to access the individual offices to steal the cash.
Some of the money taken had been raised by BanffLIFE through their DJ in the Park events this summer, and the Bow Valley Cares Centre lost funds they use to run programs.
"Breaking into a community centre and robbing five not-for-profits is just very upsetting," said BanffLIFE program coordinator Christine LaRocque.
"Everything that was taken is money that goes right back into the community."
While the cash is gone, LaRocque said all the groups will absorb the loss and not suspend any programming or events.
News of the theft has already resonated throughout the community, with individuals stepping up to help replace that lost money.
After LaRocque posted on Facebook about the robbery, local artist Mark Carroll immediately put several of his pieces of skateboard art up for auction, and has already raised $750.
"It's phenomenal how supportive this community is," LaRocque said. "You always know that, but when something like this happens, people really pull together."
Police are currently investigating the robbery at the Hub. Anyone with information is asked to contact Banff RCMP at 403-762-2228.
